On Friday, July 25, 2025, the Judiciary of Uganda hosted a memorable International Day for Judicial Well-Being at its headquarters in Kampala, themed “Transformative Wellness to Deliver People-Centered Justice.”
The event began with an energetic 4km walk, led by Chief Walker Hon. Justice Mike Chibita, Justice of the Supreme Court, representing the Hon. Chief Justice, and Hon. Lady Justice Olive Kazaarwe Mukwaya, President of the Uganda Judicial Officers Association (UJOA), the event’s key organizer.
Over 300 judicial and non-judicial officers, joined by a lively brass band and enthusiastic community supporters, marched from the Judiciary Headquarters through the bustling streets of Garden City, past the vibrant Yard City Lights, along Jinja Road, and back via the scenic City Square, showcasing unity and determination.

The walk reached a lively peak with a surprise appearance by Dr. Pius Bigirimana, Permanent Secretary, who delighted participants with unexpected dance moves and passionately championed the well-being of all staff. He proposed that this day be officially named Judiciary Wellness Day, a suggestion met with warm applause. The route was lined with cheering onlookers, adding to the festive atmosphere.
Post-walk, attendees gathered for enriching sessions with distinguished speakers. Prof. Augustus Nuwagaba, Deputy Governor of the Bank of Uganda, and Dr. Paul Kasenene, a renowned nutrition educator and functional medicine practitioner, offered practical insights on maintaining physical and mental health.
Stephen Langa, Executive Director of Family Life Network, emphasized prioritizing relationships—spouse, children, and others—over material wealth, advising to “live as if it’s your last moment” while planning for the future.

Ssegonga Muhammed, a respected coach, reinforced that “wellness is wealth; money can’t buy health,” encouraging giving to others as a fulfillment strategy and urging everyone to define their own PHF (Purpose, Happiness, Fulfillment) through personal goals and community service.
The event was proudly supported by The Rotary Fellowship for Fitness and Wellness, which provided fitness resources, and the International Association of Women Judges, which contributed expertise on gender-inclusive wellness.

This day marked a transformative step toward a healthier, more resilient judiciary dedicated to delivering people-centered justice.
